Abi Feijó

Director, Producer, Professor of Animation Cinema and Director of the House Museum of Vilar. PhD from University of Fine Arts of Porto (80). Internship at the National Film Board of Canada (85), where he directs his first film. Founder of Filmógrafo (87), Casa da Animação (01), Ciclope Filmes (02) and Quinta Imagem (12). Director of the following films: How Calm it is (85), Time of Darkness (87), The Outlaws (93), Portuguese Fado (95), Stowaway (00) and Our Lady of the Presentation (15) among others, which received over 40 mentions and awards. Worked as Producer on (since 97): The Night (99), Tragic Story with Happy Ending (05) and Kali the Little Vampire (12) by Regina Pessoa, Amélia & Duarte (15) by Alice Guimarães and Mónica Santos. The produced films have received about 95 awards and mentions. Tutor in several Animation Film workshops in Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Israel, Scotland, Poland, Brazil, Mexico, Lebanon and China, especially with children (since 85) and young people. Professor at Catholic University of Porto (99-01), ESAP (02-16), Na Tainan National University of Arts (Taiwan) (06-09), ESAG Guimarães (since 2009) and University of Algarve (12-13), at BAU - Centro Universitário de Diseño of Barcelona (15-17). He also served as President of ASIFA - International Animation Film Association (00-02) and Vice President of ASIFA Workshop Group (95-01). Co-author of the interactive manual Teaching With Animation (www.animwork.dk/twa). Currently running the House Museum of Vilar – the Moving Image - (since 14) and producing the animation short films: Uncle Tomás and the Accounting of Days by Regina Pessoa, in co-production with ONF / NFB Canada and Les Armateurs (France) and also Ride, by Paul Bush, a co-production with Ancient Mariner, UK. In 2019, Abi was invited to join the North American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which awards the Oscars.


Ana Maria Gomes

Ana Maria Gomes

Ana Maria Gomes is a Franco-Portuguese artist and filmmaker, born in 1982 in France. She lives and works in Paris. She graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des arts décoratifs in Paris and went on to further study at Le Fresnoy, specializing in video art. Gomes’s work today focuses on the role of fiction in the construction of personal identities; her main artistic interest revolves around her inner circle and family in particular. Her work has been presented in exhibitions and screened in international festivals (Hors Piste at the Centre Pompidou, Gaîté Lyrique, Jeu de Paume, Museum of Hunting and Nature in Paris, French and Portuguese Cinemathèque, etc.), it has received support from artistic institutions including the G.R.E.C, the Gulbenkian Foundation, SCAM, DRAC or the Centre National des Arts Plastiques, and it is part of public collections such as the French National Contemporary Art Fund Collection (FNAC), the National Bpi Catalogue (Images en Bibliothèques), the National French Library (BnF), the collection of the Casa de Velazquez.


António Francisco Pita

António Francisco Pita

António Pita has a postgraduate degree in Artistic Studies with a Specialization in Film and Image Studies from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Coimbra. He is a music programmer, co-founding the cycle With Certain Musicians, and film programmer at the Center for Cinematographic Studies of the Academic Association of Coimbra. He collaborated in several film productions, taking up roles as diverse as Art Director, Sound Director and Production Director.


António Menéres

António Menéres

António Sérgio Maciel Menéres was born in Matosinhos in 1930. In addition to his teaching activity at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto, until his retirement, he works as a freelancer in his own office and regularly carries out research and dissemination work. within the scope of architectural heritage. He participated in the Survey of Portuguese Regional Architecture in 1955/1960. He has also participated in Colloquiums and Congresses in the area of study and revitalization of architectural heritage in Portugal and Brazil. Member of the Ordem dos Arquitectos under nº 333 / honorary member.

Albertino has a master’s degree in Sociology from the University of Paris V-Sorbonne (1981) and a doctorate in Sociology from Universidade do Minho (1994), where he aggregated in the Sociology disciplinary group (2005). He has been teaching, since 1982, subjects in the field of social sciences methodology and cultural sociology, lifestyle and the arts. Coordinator of the post-graduation courses at Institute of Social Sciences, a member of the founding committee of Casa Museu of Monção and researcher at the Studies Center Communication and Society.


Alessandro Negrini

Alessandro Negrini

Multi award winning Italian film director and scriptwriter, he defines himself a film director by mistake. He spent much of the late 1990s travelling in Europe writing and in 2001 he moved to Ireland. His films have garnered a remarkable raft of international awards in festivals around the world. His work combine fiction, documentaries, and poetry and his latest multi award winning film Tides has been defined as a docu-dream. His film ‘Paradiso’ was commissioned by BBC and has won 18 international awards and has been nominated in more than 60 festivals around the world. He worked several times with the renowned Norwegian Oddgeir Saether (Dop in David Lynch’s Inland Empire.) and worked with renowned screenwriters and producers, including Margo Harkin (Hush bye Baby), David Gothard (ex artistic director of Riverside Studios in London and Abbey Theater, Dublin) and Michael Seeber (A Good American). He is a regular judge at international film festivals. Recently, Negrini has been selected by one of the most prominent Italian film critic, Adriano Aprà, as part of ‘Fuorinorma’ (Out of the Norm), a project and a book selecting the best New Italian experimental cinema of the last 15 years.

Holds a PhD from the Postgraduate Program in Sociology and Anthropology - PPGSA / UFPA, Master in Social Anthropology from the same Program (2014), and Specialist in "African Education and Knowledge and the implementation of Law 10,639" from the Federal University of Pará (2012). He holds a degree in Social Sciences from the same university (2005). He works as a Teacher (Class II) at the State Department of Education (SEDUC / PA) and as an external teacher at UFPA. He is a founding member of the Research Group on Visual Anthropology and Image - Visagem / PPGSA, and editor of the e-Magazine Visagem. He is a curator of the showings at the Ethnographic Film Festival of Recife and coordinator of the Ethnographic Film Festival of Pará.


Alfonso Palazón

PhD and degree in Information and Communication Sciences from the Complutense University. Recipient of the Aurelio Paz dos Reis International Award, 2016. Full Professor of Audiovisual Communication at the Faculty of Communication Sciences of Rey Juan Carlos University. He has worked on various audiovisual projects as director, producer and screenwriter. Alfonso is currently co-producing the transmedia project A Primavera Rosa.

Álvaro António Gomes Domingues (Melgaço, 1959) is a geographer, PhD in Human Geography and associate professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto. Teaching activity: Teacher of the integrated master's and doctoral program in Architecture and PhD Course at FAUP; Member of the Scientific Council at FAUP; Professor of the Master’s degree "Project of the Urban Environment" (FAUP/FEUP); Teacher of PhD Course of Architecture of the University of Coimbra.; Professor of the Summer Courses at the Serralves Foundation; Visiting professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro; Visiting Professor at the University of Granada. Regularly collaborates with other universities, foundations, Público newspaper, cultural and professional associations, whilst developing a regular activity as a lecturer. Amongst other roles, he was a Professor, Director of the Art and Culture Department of the Institut Français du Portugal; responsible for the organization of the French Film Festival in Porto, co-founder of the Alliance Française de Porto (Board member), collaborator with Jean-Loup Passek in the creation, and later in the management of the Melgaço Film Museum, Executive Producer of the film En une poignée de mains amies by Jean Rouch and Manoel de Oliveira.

Cláudia Ribeiro was born in 1990, in Guimarães, in the North of Portugal, and currently lives in Porto. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Film and a Master’s in Anthropology - Visual Cultures. Her work is focused mainly on the concepts of culture and identity, moved by a constant questioning of human behaviour, memory, representation, and the concept of reality. THE LIFE WE KNOW is her debut in documentary film, the result of 7 months of painstaking fieldwork in a small inland village in northern Portugal.

Dagmar is a German filmmaker and curator, since 2013 working for Freiburger Filmforum – Festival of Transcultural Cinema (www.freiburger-filmforum.de) and also for a nomadic cinema initiative in Berlin (www.moabiter-filmkultur.de). In 1982 she graduated in German Literature/Philosophy (MA) in Marburg. Being a devoted cinéaste early on she began working as an assistant editor/editor for independent film and TV productions. Her filmmaking started out with found footage shorts in the mid-80s, the last of this series, SCHÖNE ALTE WELT, was completed in 2000. In 1996 she was awarded a Hessian Film Award for her essayistic feature film HEIDENGELD. Recently she realized VON DINGEN (2019), a documentary about collecting.

Anthropologist, graduated in History and PhD in Socio-Environmental Development. She coordinates the Research Group in Visual Anthropology and Image (Visagem) and Study Group on Indigenous Populations Eneida Correa de Assis (GEPI). Coordination team member of the Visual Anthropology Committee of the Brazilian Association of Anthropology (CAV-ABA). Denise works as coordinator of the Arthur Napoleão Figueiredo Anthropology Laboratory (LAANF) and as a professor in the Postgraduate Program in Sociology and Anthropology (PPGSA) and the Postgraduate Program in Cities, Territories and Identities (PPGCITI) from the Federal University of Pará.


Dragan Miolinkovic Fimon

Dragan Miolinkovic Fimon

Dragan Miolinkovic Fimon is an eminent university professor, producer, drama writer and director with an admirably rich career. He graduated from the Belgrade Drama School and won his Master’s degree at the Belgrade Faculty of Philology – Sociology of Literature department. Following scientific research in Paris (Cultural Centre George Pompidou) and London (British Film Institute), he completed his PhD with a thesis on Possibilities of filming a novel. He carried out post PhD research in Paris (economics of culture), Moscow (East-European cinema), Seoul (cinematic language), London (literature and cinema), and Barcelona (media education).


Eloy Domínguez Serén

Eloy Domínguez Serén

Graduated from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, he began his career as a film critic, co-founder and co-director of the magazine A Cuarta Parede. In 2010 he is a member of the Júri da Mostra de Venecia. The following year he moves to Stockholm, where he shoots the shorts Pettring (2013) and No novo céio (2014). In 2014 he films the mediometraxe Jet Lag and in the following two years he completes the feature No cow on the ice (2015), premiered in Visions du Réel, and two more short films: Yellow brick road (2016) and Rust (2016). In 2018, his feature film Hamada (2018) premieres in IDFA.

Fernando Cerqueira Barros (Arcos de Valdevez, 1986) is Architect. Master in Architecture (Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade do Porto, 2011) with the Dissertation "Construção do Território e Arquitectura na Serra da Peneda. Padrão (Sistelo) e as suas "brandas" - uma caso de estudo" - Honorable Mention in the 1st Iberian Prize for Research in Traditional Architecture and published in 2013 (Municipality of Arcos de Valdevez). He is a Doctoral Student in Architecture at FAUP, developing his tesis about the Territory and Architectural Heritage in the Gerês / Xurés region. He has specific academic studies in Architectural Heritage, namely the Advanced Studies Course on Architectural Heritage (CEAPA/ FAUP, 2013), Cantabria Traditional Architecture Summer School (2019), Habitar o Campo en Galicia (2016) As Paisaxes Culturais na Montaña Galega (2017), InovPed Heritage and Landscape. Management, Analysis, Project (FAUP/FLUP 2018). He is the author of several published works, scientific articles and communications in national and international congresses, and Scientific Consultant of the Documentary "Das Arquitecturas Tradicionais no Alto-Minho" (Directed by Carlos Eduardo Viana; AO Norte), and Consultant in the production of a film for the Route of Traditional Architecture (Porta de Paredes de Coura), inserted in the itinerary Alto Minho 4D (CIM Alto-Minho). He was a member of the FAUP Pedagogical Council (2018-2019) and of the Executive Committee of the International Colloquium on Popular Architecture (Arcos de Valdevez, 2013). He is a member of the Comissão de Co-Gestão of the Peneda-Gerês National Park and an Integrated Researcher at the CEAU-FAUP - Centro de Estudos de Arquitectura e Urbanismo(Group PACT-Património da Arquitectura, da Cidade e do Território). He works as architect.

He is currently Associate Professor III, at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), Brazil. Coordinator of the master’s degree course in Social Sciences at UFRN, vice-leader at NAVIS (Visual Anthropology Nucleus) at UFRN, coordinator of the PROPESQ-UFRN research project: “Image and teaching of Sociology” and member of GEPEMADEC (Study and Research Group in Environment, Development and Culture) at the Federal University of Maranhão (UFMA), Brazil. Gilmar works in an interdisciplinary way in the fields of Sociology of Culture, Art and Cinema, with the following themes: Audiovisual, Memory, Theater of the Oppressed, Documentary, Daily Life and Social Movements of Culture.

Graça Lobo holds a Masters degree in Cultural Management with a Thesis in Public Education for Cinema. She was Coordinator of the Project Group for the National Cinema Plan, in 2012/13 and 2013/14. Co-author and coordinator of the Youth / Cinema / School Program for the Regional Education Board of Algarve since 1997/98. Co-author of the Option Subject in Cinema Program of the 3rd cycle of Basic Education. She was a primary and high school teacher between 1975 and 1997 and supervising professor in Teachers’ formation at Escola Superior da Educação of Algarve from 1993 to 1996. Visiting professor at the University of Algarve teaching Cinema subjects between 1994 and 2001.Graça is an accredited trainer by the Council for Continuing Education of Teachers, and has held dozens of training courses in Film Literacy since 1999. Vice president of the Faro film club from 1996 to 2008. Coordinator of several publications in the field of cinema. She made presentations in National and International Congresses.

Has the Course of Musical Education and piano, by the Regional Conservatory of Algarve (1992). She did radio. Founding member of RADIX, within the Ministry of Culture. Editorial coordinator of Sul Magazine. Teacher of Music Education, Civic Education and Portuguese History at basic education. Lecturer of Contemporary Artistic Movements in Higher Education. Instructor of Visual Communication and Photography and Video and author of the teaching materials for the curricular unit of psychoanalysis at the University of Algarve. Trainer in Art History and Educational Technologies, Audiovisual Media in Actions for the Continuing Education of Teachers. She was a member of the artistic training team, field of Literature and Writing, in the project ‘I see a monument from my window’ from the Regional Directorate of Culture of Algarve. Coordinator of the training for the National Cinema Plan, instructor in the Initiation, Continuity and Follow-up Training Actions of Teachers and author of the pedagogical materials of the PNC (2012-2014). She has made communications in congresses in the fields of Art History and literacy and has also published poetry and short stories. Isa develops workshops in reading, writing and voice for students from the different levels of education. Collaborator and author of the training materials of the Youth / Cinema / School Program and author of the project VER para LER of the Algarve Regional Education Board since 2004. Coordinator of the Training Committee of the Faro film club.


Jane Pinheiro

Jane Pinheiro

Was born and lives in Recife, northeastern Brazil. Professor of Visual Arts and Photography, Cinema and Video at the College of Application of the Federal University of Pernambuco - UFPE, recently retired. She remains linked to UFPE as a researcher at LEVE - Laboratory of Experience, Visuality and Education and to LAV - Laboratory of Visual Anthropology. A PhD in Anthropology (PUC-SP), she defended her thesis Dreams in Movement: 1st Imaginary Audiovisual Exhibition produced by teenagers in Recife in the 21st Century. She has been a member of the Organizing Committee at the International Festival of Ethnographic Film in Recife since its first edition in 2008, and the Commission Selection Committee of the same festival since 2011. Member of the Kino Network since 2017. Autorade Tiritot (Zolu, 2019), Por causa do sal (Zolu, 2017), Contemporary Art in Recife in the 1990s (Zanzar, 2016), Kaleidoscope (Paulinas, 2006/2009). Jane also ventures in the production of video poems made available on her non-YouTube channel and on the website www.janepinheiro.com.


Jenni Kivistö

Jenni Kivistö

Is a Finnish documentary film director who has lived and studied in Colombia for 7 years. She graduated from the Black Maria film school in 2013 (Colombia), and iscurrently completing her Documentary Film Master programme in Aalto University (Finland). Her short film Äiti (Mother, 2017) was awarded the Silver Mikeldi at ZINEBI and has beenscreened at major festivals like Clermont-Ferrand and Cairo International Film Festival. Herfirst feature-length documentary, Land Within (2016), had its world premiere at DOK Leipzig in 2016 in the Next Masters competition.


João Gigante

João Gigante

Born in Viana do Castelo, graduated in Fine Arts from the Faculty of Belas Artes in Porto and completed a Master's Degree in Audiovisual Communication (Photography) at Escola Superior de Música, Artes e Espectáculo from the Polytechnic Institute of Porto. He mantains his course among the practice of fine arts, having displayed his work in several exhibitions within the national and international artistic scene and the practice of production and organization of events and artistic projects and the projection and organization of projects of social and ethnographic level, maintaining its artistic and conceptual character. His work complements the different areas of plastic performance, like photography, video, sound design, installation and design. Developer of musical projects with highlights such as PHOLE and the sound plastic project ARAME (with Miguel Arieira). João is also the founding member and director of PARASITA Magazine (with Hugo Soares).


Jorge Silva

Jorge Silva

Is a newspaper man and has won 40 awards from the American SND, Society for News Design between 2000 and 2004 for his work as a designer and art director at O Independente and Público. Editorial illustration, a lifelong passion he learned at the Trotskyist Combate journal over the 1980s and 1990s, has brought him many joyful moments, awards, curatorships, and a blog, Almanaque Silva, where he writes bizarre stories about Portuguese illustration. In 2003 he invented a sardine that has become, over the years, the real image of Lisbon, where he was born 59 years ago. With the silvadesigners studio, which he founded in 2001, he has contributed to the creation and development of cultural brands of Lisbon's abundant cultural life. He believes that "a word is worth a thousand images" and applies at work the emotional exuberance of his Portuguese soul and the editorial intelligence he has learned in the press. He compulsorily collects all types of illustrations from books to match wallets, and has become a frequent customer at the auction houses, where he seizes, by spending small fortunes, great treasures from the history of Portuguese illustration. He is a member of AGI, Alliance Graphique Internationale, since 2012.

(2019), Linha Vermelha (2011), Entre Muros (2002) present at international film festivals, such as the Locarno Film Festival, BFI London Film Festival, Viennale, Cinéma du Réel, PlanetaDoc, Fórumdoc.bh, Fidé Brasil, Festival OF Short films from Rio de Janeiro, IndieLisboa, short films from Vila do Conde, among others, and with screenings on several television channels such as RTP, Futura-Brasil and ZDF-Arte. He was screenwriter and director of the popular science series Stories of Life on Earth (2008). He was a visiting professor at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (2013) and has taught at IADE, ETIC, Polytechnic Institute of Tomar and in the course DocNomads, Documentary Film Directing Erasmus Mundus.

Former professor at the Open University of Portugal. He has vast experience in the field of Anthropology, with an emphasis on Visual Anthropology, working mainly on the following themes: visual anthropology, digital anthropology, cinema, research methods in anthropology, interculturality and Afro-Atlantic culture. Fieldwork undertaken in Portugal, Cape Verde, Brazil, Argentina and Cuba. He coordinated the International Network of Scientific Cooperation Images of Culture / Image Culture. Visiting professor at Mackenzie University (Education, Art and History of Culture), UECE, UCDJB, University of Murcia - Spain (ERASMUS) and University of Savoie - France, University of S. Paulo. Julia Kushnarenko

Julia Kushnarenko

Was born in Moscow, Russia in 1991, but spent her childhood in the North Caucasus Region. Julia studied directing at the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography in Moscow. She has completed courses at Moscow’s Scream School in visual effects compositing. Having formerly worked as a videographer for National Geographic Magazine(USA). For several years, Julia worked as a director and editor at the film studio SHKID (Moscow, Russia). Julia is fascinated by exploring characters in all their contradictions. She has exhibited her cinematic works at international film festivals and art exhibitions worldwide. Her documentary film about reindeers herder in Russian Arctic was awarded with many festivals all over the world. In 2017 Julia with Veronika Sher founded International Dance Short Film Festival BODYSCOPE, the unique dance short film festival in Russia with live screenings.


Jussi Rastas

Is a Finnish documentary film director and cinematographer who has lived 4 years in South America; in Colombia, Peru and Chile. Jussi has graduated as a Master in Digital Media (University of Jyväskylä, Finland) and studied cinematography in Spain (ESCAC). In recent years, Jussi has directed a documentary short film series about racismo and discrimination and worked as an audiovisual delegate for the Red Cross in conflict and disaster zones in Ukraine, Syria and Africa. Colombia in My Arms is Jussi’s first feature-length film as a director.


Mahdi Fleifel

Born in Dubai, Mahdi Fleifel lives and works between Denmark, England and Greece. A graduate of the UK’s National Film & Television School, he studied Fiction Directing under Stephen Frears and Pawel Pawlikowski. In 2010 he founded the London based production company Nakba FilmWorks with Irish producer Patrick Campbell. Fleifel’s critically acclaimed debut feature, A world not ours, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and received over 30 awards, including the Berlinale Peace Prize, and the Edinburgh, Yamagata and DOC:NYC Grand Jury Prizes. He was named Best New Nordic Voice at Nordisk Panorama, and received the New Talent Award at CPH:DOX in 2013. In 2016 Fleifel won a Silver Bear for A MAN RETURNED. His follow up, A drowning man, was selected in the Official Competition at Cannes, and was nominated for a BAFTA. His last film, I signed the petition, won Best Documentary Short at IDFA and was nominated for the 2018 European Film Awards.

Manuel Sendón graduated in Mathmatics (1973) and has a Doctorate in Fine Arts (1997). He's a Professor in Photography at the Fine Arts Faculty of Pontevedra since 1993. Along with X. L Suárez, he directs the Centre for Photographic Studies in Vigo. He was a principal researcher at the Group for Photographic Investigations PEI2 (1996-2014) and he is now responsible for the project Inédito. He has a vast published body of work in the area of Gaelician Historical Photography and has curated, with X. L. Suárez, exhibits both in this area as well as that of Contemporary Photography. As a Photographer, he has a vast body of work that has resulted in many exhibits both by himself and within a collective, in several places around the world.

His work is distinguished by the use of various creative strategies related to appropriation, post-production, and series. Its creation process is characterized by a systematic methodology of grouping files (images, videos, text, etc.) and later reinterpreting them. Graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Barcelona in 2010, he has taught since 2018 as an associate professor at the University of Vigo by the Department of Drawing in subjects such as Computer Techniques or Graphic Techniques, among others. He is currently a member of the UVigo research group DX7. Highlight in his academic training the Máster de Creación e Investigación en Arte Contemporáneo from the University of Vigo, the Erasmus intershio at Coventry University of Art & Design (England) or the Program of mobility grants for research staff of the University of Vigo with destination in Portugal. Throughout his career he has been awarded and selected in various competitions and artistic residencies both nationally and internationally. Among them we must highlight the Undécimo Premio Auditorio de Galicia para Novos Artistas, the Zona ‘C’ award with the project El rapto de Europa, the Cerveira 2014 Biennial Foundation Artistic Residence or the 2010 Novos Valores Award. His work has been exhibited in various spaces of great artistic relevance both nationally and internationally. Marisa Víctor Crespo is a teacher in Children's Education and Primary Education and has a degree in Pedagogy. She worked as a teacher in different public centers in the Community of Madrid, especially in the educational community of Colegio Público Trabenco de Leganés in Madrid and, currently, at Escola Infantil Zofío in Madrid. Member of the literacy and audiovisual creation Collective "Educar la mirada". Member of the Pedagogical Renewal Movement "Acción Educativa", promoting a critical and creative reflection, as well as the continuous training of teachers. Marisa develops part of her teaching work at the EnterArte collective, managing innovative artistic education projects in different educational stages, working in collaboration with artists, cultural managers and museums interested in relating art and school. Collaborator with the Centro de Arte 2 de Mayo (CA2M), Museum of Contemporary Art in the Community of Madrid, in coordination with the education department in different work groups, training and publications.

Mina Rad left her native country at the age of 18, the day after the Iranian revolution to purse her dream like Oriana Fallaci and become an international reporter. After studying history, journalism and communication at the Sorbonne Paris, she embarked on international political journalism in various Central Asian countries. She worked for the BBC, RFI and AFP. While traveling the world, for twelve years, she discovers another passion, World Music. She became Editor-in-Chief of World Music Supplements for The World of Music. Between 1990 to 2000 she traveled the world and produced supplements devoted to the music of rare and emerging countries for; Yemen, Egypt, Cuba, Cape Verde, Marocco and India. In 2011 and 2014, she trained in the production and writing of documentaries at Ateliers Varan. Her first film "For me the sun never sets," was awarded the prize for best documentary film at the Festival of Truth in Iran in 2012. This film got the jury mention, "for the warmth and simplicity to tell a deep story". She is the founder and president of Apresvaran, an alumni association of Ateliers Varan created in 2013. She is director of the Apresvaran Documentary Film Festival. As a documentary filmmaker, she has directed more than ten films. In preparing several documentaries, she notes that the documentary opens a window to the universe. Mina Rad has made several portraits of people who have marked the history of Iran: "This family of 60 people",and "History of the Mafi family". Mina Rad, is interested in the transmission of knowledge and the methods of the realization of great filmmakers like Jean Rouch (France), Pierre Perrault (Quebec, Canada). She directs and produces documentary films based on the influence of these cineastes. In 2017, the film "Jean Rouch Persian look", was broadcast by TV5 Monde on the occasion of the centenary of Jean Rouch. EN 2019, The film "Persian Tales, Jean Rouch in Iran" was presented at Melgaco International Documentary Film Festival in Portugal. It will be published in Montparnasse publisher in France in a series of films dedicated to Jean Rouch. EN 2019, "The future of the past, Pierre and Yolande Perrault", which reflects the influence of this filmmaker after half a century on the little children of the characters of his films at Isle aux Coudres. This film was in the official selection of the Festival for Art at FiFA in Montreal. And it is scheduled at the Jean Loup Passak awards at the Melgaco International Documentary Film Festival.

Pablo Piedras holds a PhD in Philosophy and Humanities with a degree in Theory and Art History from the Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities of the University of Buenos Aires. He has a degree in Combined Arts from the same institution. He was a doctoral candidate at the National Agency for Scientific and Technological Promotion and at CONICET, where he is currently an associate researcher. Adjunct professor at the Chair of History of Latin American and Argentine Cinema (FFyL, UBA) and visiting professor of Dramatic Arts at the National University of Arts (UNA). He was director of Cine Documental magazine (2010-2019) and president of the Argentine Association of Cinematographic and Audiovisual Studies (AsAECA) from 2016 to 2018. He is currently a researcher at the Institute of Entertainment Arts (FFyL, UBA). He has taught seminars and postgraduate courses at several universities in Argentina, Spain and England. Author of Documentary Film in the first-person (Paidós, 2014) and co-author of Patino / Birri. Strategies versus reality (Malaga Film Festival, 2018). Pablo is co-editor of the books: A History of Political and Social Cinema in Argentina. Vol. I and II (Nueva Librería, 2009 and 2011), Cinema and revolution in Latin America. A comparative perspective of the region's cinematographies (Imago Mundo, 2014), I know the music. Patrícia Nogueira is a documentary filmmaker, researcher and professor. She produces and directs her own documentaries and have been collaborating with other directors. Her films have been selected to film festivals, in Portugal – DocLisboa, FEST, PrimeirOlhar, Douro Film Festival – and abroad – Cine Las Americas, Berlin Feminist Film Week, Filministes, Women’s Voices Now Film Festival and Indie Grits. Patrícia is a Ph.D. in Digital Media under the UT Austin-Portugal international program and holds a master degree in Documentary Film from ESMAE. Her Ph.D. research focuses on the audiences' perception on interactive documentary and was developed in partnership with the National Film Board of Canada, where she was in residence during 2015. Since 2013 Dr. Nogueira is a Professor, teaching both at ISMAI – University of Maia and at the University of Coimbra. Along with Andrew Garrison, she co-created and co-teaches the Death and Documentary class, running in the Film department at the University of Texas at Austin. She is a researcher at ICNOVA - iNOVA Media Lab and co-leads the european research group CCVA – Cinema and Contemporary Visual Arts, under NECS - European Network for Cinema and Media Studies. Her research interests focus on all forms of documentary – analogue, digital, interactive – and delve into Feminist Film Theories, Expanded Cinema and Digital Culture.

Paula Tavares is a professor, artist and researcher. She has a Phd in Fine Arts (2006). She works as Coordinator Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and the Ave where she is the Dean of the School of Design (since 2015). She is the Co Diretor in ID+ Research Institute for Design, Media and Culture (http://www.idmais.org/pt-pt/) and she coordinates the CAOS group Communication, Art, Object and Synergies (since 2017). She is also the General Chair of CONFIA - International Conference on Illustration and Animation (since 2012) (http://www.confia.ipca.pt/). Periodically she participates in seminars, workshops and conferences, publishing in the areas of Drawing, Design, Illustration and Animation. Has participated in several design competitions - national and international, academic and professional - as a jury. She is represented as an artist in several collections and since the 1990s she has participated in exhibitions and artistic events.


Pedro Costa

Pedro Costa

Born in Lisbon in 1959, he abandoned his studies in History to attend classes by the poet and director António Reis at the School of Cinema. His first feature film, The Blood, had its world premiere at Mostra di Venezia in 1989. Casa de Lava, his second film, shot in Cape Verde, was shown at the Cannes Film Festival. Some of his other films include Bones, In Vanda’s Room and Colossal Youth, which make up the Fontaínhas trilogy. He also directed Where Does Your Hidden Smile Lie?, following the work of Danièle Huillet and Jean-Marie Straub and Change Nothing with the actress Jeanne Balibar. He was part of the collective feature Centro Histórico, alongside Manoel de Oliveira, Aki Kaurismäki and Víctor Erice. His film Horse Money had a remarkable international career, having received the award for Best Director at the 2014 International Film Festival in Locarno. His most recent film Vitalina Varela won the Golden Leopard for Best Film at the LOCARNO Film Festival and the Silver Leopard for Best Actress for Vitalina Varela in 2019. It also won the Ecumenical Jury Honorable Mention and the Boccalino D'Oro Independent Jury Award for Best Actress; Jury Prize for Best Film at the LA ROCHE-SUR-YON Festival; the Silver Hugo Jury Prize at the CHICAGO Festival; at MAR DEL PLATA Festival it won Best Direction for Pedro Costa, Best Actor for Ventura and Best Photography for Leonardo Simões; at the GIJÓN Festival, Principado de Asturias Prize for Best Film and Best Photography for Leonardo Simões; at the CAMINHOS DO CINEMA PORTUGUÊS Festival, winner of The Festival's Grand Prix, Best Actress and Best Photography, for Leonardo Simões. It also won the Best Film Award from the Portuguese Society of Authors.

Director, cultural programmer and teacher in the fields of artistic creation, documentary and experimental film. Directed several films with the support of ICA / RTP - documentaries, fiction and advertising spots. Developed author photographic projects. Co-artistic director of Vo'Arte and co-founder of the Teatro Meridional Company, he is a consultant and coordinator of several national and international cultural projects. Integrated team member of European projects Fragile, Unlimited and European Video Dance Heritage (EVDH). Co-director of the International Festivals InShadow, InArte and InMotion in the areas of cinema, photography, dance and performance, and is a programmer at Olhares Frontais, a project that has been part of the Encontros de Viana Film Festival for 20 years, where he also coordinates the Histórias da Praça project. He collaborated in the design of the Filmes do Homem Festival, currently MDOC, where he is responsible for the Plano Frontal Residence. His artistic project focuses increasingly in a practice with a social dimension through the intersection of everyone with everyone, interpreters with multi-deficiency and professional artists. For the last 27 years he has been intensely dedicated to the pedagogical area, directing laboratories dedicated to experimentation and innovation, both documentary and fictional. Teaches in the areas of filmmaking, transdisciplinary narratives and the relationship between performance and technologies at ESTAL, IPA, SOU and EscreverEscrever. Teacher at the Documentary Film Masters’ degree from ESMAE (Porto) for 12 years and teaching coordinator at ETIC for 18 years, where he was creative director, and cooperated in the implementation of the new HND courses certified by the world's largest educational entity: Pearson. Orchestrator and director of several theatrical, choreographic and performative projects, he has been awarded numerous times for his cinematographic, photographic and transdisciplinary works in Portugal and abroad. Co-creator of the project Generation Soma, supported by the PARTIS Program - Social integration through artistic practices, from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. He is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Lisbon (UL) in performing arts and moving image, an investigator at GECAPA in the experimental areas of intersection between body and image. He finished his last film "Four Seasons and Autumn" and is preparing "A sea of sky".

After leaving France aged eighteen, Philippine Sellam lived, studied and worked in different places, including the Netherlands, Armenia, Australia, Cuba, and Argentina. In 2014, finished the Master’s degree in Sustainable Development and began studying Cinematography and Documentary Filmmaking in Argentina. Philippine created various short films, including ‘War, chalk, time / Recovered absences’ and ‘El Roma’. Currently, she is editing my first feature length documentary, with material shot over several years in a marginal neighbourhood of the suburbs of Buenos Aires.

Renato Athias is the general coordinator of the Recife International Festival of Ethnographic Film. He holds a degree in Philosophy from Dom Bosco Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences ad Arts (1975), MA in Ethnology – Université de Paris X, (Nanterre, 1982) with a dissertation on the Notion of Ethnic Identity in Brazilian Anthropology. Holds a Doctorate in Ethnology by the same University (1995). He conducted studies in the fields of Media and Television at the University of Southampton (UK). Coordinator of the Center for Studies and Research on Race (NEPE), UFPE and is Assistant Professor of the Graduate Program in Anthropology at UFPE. Currently coordinates the Visual Anthropology Laboratory of the Image, Sound & Human Sciences at UFPE.

Rui Esperança was born in Viana do Castelo in 1991. Graduated in Film by the National Theatre and Film School in Lisbon, he is the author of a body of work that most recently includes “The Outsiders” (IndieLisboa; 2019), “18” (Curtas Vila do Conde; 2019), among others. Selim Yildiz (1985) was born in van, Kurdistan. While studying photography, he worked as a builder. He organized the exhibitions 113 years of resistance – Kurdish media and Child Migration. in 2013, he spent 29 days with Kurdish soldiers (PKK) and made his first documentary 29. His second movie called I Remember was about the Roboskî Massacre. He received the Johan van der Keuken New Talent Award in Documentarist. He is currently working on the 4th documentary film project Monologue.

The French-Israeli director was born in Munich in 1983 and spent her first 14 years in Munich, before moving to Jerusalem in 1997. In 2001 she moved to Paris to study acting, she pursued her theater studies in New York under the direction of Mike Nichols. After directing and acting in various theatre productions, she continued her education at the NYFA and studied film production. In 2007, she moved to Berlin and began freelancing in the film industry. In order to improve her craft as director, Sharon applied and got accepted into the prestigious MA program in documentary film directing at the Filmuniversität Babelsberg Konrad Wolf in Potsdam. During her time in the program Sharon directed three short films and “Displaced“. Sharon is currently enrolled as a PhD student at the Filmuniversität Babelsberg Konrad Wolf and is an ELES research fellow, a scholarship for gifted Jewish students in Germany.

She has exhibited her cinematic works at international film festivals and art exhibitions worldwide and received several awards. Holds a degree in film from Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada. He was one of the creators of the documentary series Gente que Faz, an innovative format on television in the 1990s. Currently, he takes care of the creation and artistic supervision of the projects for production company OLHAR IMAGINÁRIO. In July he released the 26-episode series Cena Unquieta about Group Theater on SESCTV and is releasing the documentary Dentro da Minha Pele on GLOBOPLAY about structural racism.

With a degree in Social Sciences, she worked directly on issues such as domestic violence and gender equality and human rights. She has published monographs and articles, such as Police Apparatus and Domestic Violence: Inaccuracies in Police Reports. In 2012, she dedicated herself to the theme of state violence of the military dictatorship and the contemporary performance of the Military Police, which resulted in the publication of the text Educação em Direito à Memória e a Verdade."
