Kino Meeting

A meeting on film literacy

August 04 / 09h30-16h00 / Solar do Alvarinho

FILMES DO HOMEM - International Documentary Film Festival of Melgaço was founded due to the Cinema Museum of Melgaço Jean-Loup Passek.

With over a quarter of a century of activities in the cinema realm, as an editorial director of the "Dictionnaire Larousse du Cinéma", advisor for cinema at Centre Georges Pompidou, founder and director of the Festival de la Rochelle and coordinator of "Caméra d'Or" at the Cannes Film festival, Jean-Loup Passek has collected countless objects, testimonials, documents and rarities of the Seventh Art, such as: photographs, thousands of posters, books, and a magnificent set of apparatus from the so-called pre-cinema period.

The Cinema Museum of Melgaço Jean-Loup Passek was established with Jean-Loup Passek’s collection which he collected during his lifetime and donated to the Municipality: a collection of close to a million photographs (among them are images of the 65 exhibitions he organized at the Pompidou Center), hundreds of posters, countless pre-cinema devices (magical lanterns, for example), and a wealth of documentation including autographed photos by such figures as Charles Chaplin, Jules Dassin, or Melina Mercoury.

The Museum collection portraying the history of cinema will be the starting point for creating an educational service in Melgaço, focusing in the school population as its main target audience.

Therefore, FILMES DO HOMEM will organize, on August the 4th, 2017, the KINO Meeting, gathering institutions which promote cinema literacy, with the following aims:

  • Encourage networking and exchanging experiences experiences and ideas across institutions with cinema educational services;
  • Present diverse pedagogical objectives and beneficiaries of educational activities promoted by several countries.

The meeting is open and free for attendance. We strongly encourage the participation of everyone interested in Cinema literacy.
