Exhibition commissioned by Bernard Despomadères . Madalena Lima
120 x 160 centimeters is the size of the first cinema poster, of which the Cinématographe Lumière is a paradigm. This poster invited a unique experience: the viewing of a varied program of about a dozen films, the work of the Lumière Brothers and their cinematograph, of which posterity has retained one title, "L'Arroseur Arrosé", exactly represented in it.
Cinema was born and its posters with it.
Circularity was thus established between the moving and still pictures, whose primary function is to sell the former, thus also constituting as one of its xtensions and establishing a fascinating dialogue in some cases.
And said format 120 x 160 has remained until our days, continuing to be the most used. It is the protagonist of this exhibition.
The posters here on display, silent and enchanting witnesses of a history that narrates, that of cinema (of the arts, of ideas, of techniques), constitute a beautiful and, for some, rare collection, patiently and lovingly gathered by Jean-Loup Passek over his lifetime.
For the pleasure of us all.
