Us, here and there

Casa da Cultura de Melgaço

FILMES DO HOMEM FILMES DO HOMEM has initiated, among emigrants, the collection and scanning of photographs that document stories of emigration.
It was in the family album, so often stored or forgotten in secluded drawers, undervalued, that we found this multiplicity and depth of universes.
We give you, therefore, this message: culture and heritage are in the hands of the people who live by it. Without the active contribution of the Melgacenses and local agents who were willing to help in this collection, this type of work would be impossible, and all this History might have got lost.
The exhibition, curated by Daniel Maciel, is organized into different thematic lines: "Chantier", Journey, Work, Socializing and Portraits. There is also an organization between photographs of "Here", taken in the Melgaço municipality, and "There", taken in France and all over the world. The themes are not meant for a restricted, conditioned division. Rather, they are guidelines that show us the various aspects of everyday life.

Manoel de Oliveira

Museu de Cinema de Melgaço Jean Loup Passek

The Melgaço Museum of Cinema Jean-Loup Passek will evoke Manoel de Oliveira, a filmmaker who throughout his work made a reflection on culture and Portuguese history and chose the region as the setting for one of his films.
Bernard Despomadères, the exhibition commissioner, refers that "we will evoke the actor, from Canção de Lisboa, by Cotinelli Telmo, to Lisbon Story, by Wim Wenders, passing through the various roles in his own films. And we shall talk of the producer, the screenwriter, the dialogist and especially the director.
(...) We will take a little longer in the Alto Minho, apropos of the film Viagem ao Princípio do Mundo, filmed largely on this municipality, a region to which he was emotionally attached. An attempt to return to the beginning of the world by memory, in which reality fragments, came to encrust. "
