Looking at the world in MELGAÇO
From July 30 to August 5, 27 films will be eligible for the Jean-Loup Passek award, which will be presented by a jury consisting of professor and filmmaker Margarita Ledo Andión, the directors Jasna Krajinovic and Luciana Fina, and by film critics Luís Miguel Oliveira and Ricardo Vieira Lisboa.
The summer course OFF THE SCREEN, coordinated by professor José da Silva Ribeiro, honours the French director Jean Rouch and presents the work of Brazilian director Eliane Caffé and the project Melgaço of the Amazon.
The film and photographic residency FRONTAL SHOT, guided by director Pedro Sena Nunes, will be showing the documentaries and photographic works carried out in the last edition and will continue to look at the region through the production of new projects.
The KINO MEETING – International Meeting of Educational Film Services, coordinated by Patrícia Nogueira, will reflect on cinema as an instrument for film literacy and will feature representatives of the German Cinematheque, Filmoteca of Catalonia, AO NORTE, Mimo Leiria, Mucho Más que Cine, Kinodvor, from Slovenia, Cinanima, Cineclube of Faro, Cineclube of Viseu e Casa Museu of Vilar.
The Jean-Loup Passek Museum of Cinema inaugurates the exhibition Anna Magnani by Anna Magnani, curated by Bernard Despomaderes, and Casa da Cultura will be displaying the photographyexhibition Skin and Rock, by João Gigante, a production of FILMES DO HOMEM about Parada do Monte. The exhibition is part of the project Who are we here? coordinated by Álvaro Domingues, that questions the capacity of the geographic space and its political-administrative geographies to match society and territory. The same project will show the exhibition Who are we here In transit, curated by Daniel Maciel and made from family albums of inhabitants of Parada do Monte and Cubalhão.
Still on the territory, we'll disclose the exhibitions Cá e Lá, Nosotros by Sandra Teixeira, Impermanence, ou da Memória da Vida de Brandeiro, by Luis Miguel Portela, and Fôlego, by Ana Luísa Martins, produced during the Photographic Residency Frontal Shot in 2017.
On the weekend of August 4 and 5, Hop to Melgaço proposes, not a bumpy ride like the ones endured in the sixties by thousands of Portuguese when they immigrated to France "on the hop", but a program that includes the projection of films, visits to exhibitions, the Jean-Loup Passek Museum of Cinema, Memória e Fronteira Museum, Lamas de Mouro and Parada do Monte. A Special Session with the documentary Silence, presented by José Alves Pereira, will honour António Loja Neves, who collaborated on all the editions of this Festival.
