During over a quarter of a century of activities in the field of cinema, as editorial director of the "Dictionnaire Larousse du Cinéma", cinema advisor at the Center Georges Pompidou, founder and director of the Festival de la Rochelle until 2001, and coordinator of "Caméra d'Or" at the Cannes Film festival, Jean-Loup Passek has collected countless objects, testimonies, documents, rarities of the Seventh Art: more than one hundred thousand photographs, thousands of posters, books, a magnificent set of apparatus from the period of the so-called pre-cinema.
In Melgaço, the local Town Hall supported the realization of a dream that he always cherished, the foundation of a "sentimental museum" where his collection could be presented.
On the occasion of the 50th edition of the La Rochelle Film Festival and the 8th edition of the MDOC - International Documentary Festival of Melgaço, Jean-Loup Passek will be honoured through a showing of his collection and a selection of original posters of Portuguese films. The exhibition, curated by Sylvie Pras and Madalena Lima, will be on display at the La Rochelle Film Festival from July 1st to 10th, and will be inaugurated at the Melgaço Film Museum on August 1st, opening day of MDOC.
